Leicester City 2 Napoli 2 : Osimhen nets brace; Iheanacho assists; Ndidi sees red; Lookman features
Published: September 16, 2021Leicester City dropped crucial points in the UEFA Europa League by letting a two-goal lead slip to draw 2-2 with Napoli at the King Power Stadium on Thursday night.
In the thrilling encounter, Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho started from the off for the Foxes, while international teammate Victor Osimhen shook off his injury concerns to start for the Italian side.
A fourth player of Nigerian descent in RB Leipzig loanee Ademola Lookman entered the game as a substitute in the 70th minute.
It took Leicester City only nine minutes to open the scoring as Ayoze Perez hit the ball past Ospina with a lovely side-footed volley.
Osimhen saw his shot go off the target in the 21st minute after wrestling free of his marker and came close again four minutes before half time but couldn't keep his shot down.
Harvey Barnes drove the ball into the bottom corner to make it 2-0 after he was fed by Iheanacho in the 64th minute.
Five minutes later, Osimhen shrugged off a challenge and deftly lobbed the ball over Schmeichel to half the deficit and equalised in the 86th minute when he climbed highest to power an unstoppable header past the Danish goalkeeper.
Ndidi was sent off in stoppage time for a second bookable offense after pulling the shirt of Ounas near the half-way line.
The holding midfielder had earlier picked up a booking for an untidy challenge on Zambo Anguissa in the 21st minute.
