Balogun fires brace, Shoretire nets consolation as Arsenal beat Man Utd in PL2
Arsenal have climbed to second in the provisional Premier League 2 standings thanks to a 3-1 win over Manchester United at Meadow Park in Hertfordshire on Saturday afternoon.

Ahead of the Gunners' Carabao Cup clash against AFC Wimbledon a week on Wednesday, Folarin Balogun gained valuable game time and made a huge impact in the Gunners' win.

The England U21 international started for the Gunners so did four other players of Nigerian descent in the shape of goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo, Mazeed Ogungbo, Ryan Alebiosu and Tim Akinola, while Manchester United striker Shola Shoretire was on parade for 77 minutes.

Arsenal midfielder James Olayinka came off the bench with fifteen minutes left on the clock, while Joel Ideho and Ovie Ejeheri watched proceedings from the bench.

Balogun, assisted by Alebiosu, opened the scoring with a long-range effort inside two minutes, his second goal arrived when he found himself 1v1 with goalkeeper Henderson and slotted home in the 40th minute.

Shoretire halved the deficit with a curling effort on 63 minutes before Patino grabbed Arsenal's third goal in injury time.

Arsenal U23s return to Premier League 2 action next weekend against Chelsea, while Manchester United welcome Brighton & Hove to Leigh Sports Village.
