Manchester United's Nigeria-eligible striker earns call-up to Netherlands U19s
Published: August 27, 2021Manchester United striker of Nigerian descent Dillon Hoogewerf is in contention to make his debut for Netherlands U19s early next month.
Manager Bert Konterman has named a final squad with 24 players ahead of the national team's upcoming friendly against Italy, with the hugely talented attacker making the cut.
Born in Almere, Hoogewerf has a Dutch father and is eligible to represent the Flying Eagles or Dream Team through his Nigerian mother.
The 18-year-old has lived up to his wonderkid label since transferring to Manchester United from Ajax Amsterdam in the summer of 2019, with a goal involvement of 30 (18 goals, 12 assists) in 35 matches for the Red Devils U18s.
The Dutch-Nigerian was promoted to Manchester United U23 side on a permanent basis before the start of the 2021-2022 campaign.
Previously, he had caps for the Netherlands at U15, U16 and U17 levels.
Hoogewerf will compete with Sparta Rotterdam's Dutch-Nigerian-Togolese striker Emanuel Emegha for a spot in the starting eleven in the friendly against Italy on Monday, September 6 at Quick Boys in Katwijk.
