Nigeria hopeful Fiabema finds the net for Chelsea in EFL Trophy win vs Exeter City

Chelsea overcame League Two side Exeter City on penalties in an EFL Trophy group stage game at St James Park on Tuesday evening.

Of the six players of Nigerian descent eligible to represent the Blues in the competition, only Norwegian-Nigerian striker Bryan Fiabema got a taste of action after putting in a full shift.

Fellow teenagers Prince Adegoke, Richard Olise, Derrick Abu,Tudor Mendel-Idowu and Faustino Anjorin were all left out of the matchay squad by Blues U21 boss Andy Myers.

Fiabema, who is open to representing Nigeria at international level, broke the deadlock when he slotted the ball underneath the Exeter goalkeeper Harry Lee on the stroke of half-time after he was fed by Mbuyamba.

Matt Jay made no mistake from the spot to equalise for the home team in the first minute of stoppage time, taking the game to a penalty shootout in the process.

Fiabema was the only Chelsea player to miss from the spot in the shootout, blazing his effort over the bar.

Chelsea were awarded two points for winning the penalty shootout and Exeter City got one point.

Following his strike this evening, Fiabema has scored in every competition he has played with Chelsea youth teams since moving to England, including U18 Premier League, Premier League 2, FA Youth Cup and EFL Trophy.
