'He caught me' - Leicester's match-winner Iheanacho hails referee for making the right call
Published: August 07, 2021Leicester City have won the Community Shield, beating Manchester City 1-0 at Wembley Stadium on Saturday evening.
Nigeria international Kelechi Iheanacho, on as a substitute in the 79th minute, netted the winning goal ten minutes laterĀ when he dusted himself down to convert the resulting spot kick after he was fouled by Manchester City center back Nathan Ake.
Leicester City's match-winner Iheanacho has insisted that referee Paul Tierney made the right call when giving a penalty to the Foxes, pointing out that the match official was close to the incident.
The Super Eagles striker got away from Ake before he was hauled down by the Netherlands international.
In quotes relayed by BBC citing ITV, Iheanacho explained : "I think it was a penalty, he caught me, the referee saw it. He wanted us to play so if we scored it would have been a OK.
"I've been practising penalties. I missed one last season so I've been practicing in pre-season. I had just one thing in my mind: just shoot at an angle and hit it hard, and that's what I did."

Up next for Iheanacho and his Leicester City teammates, they face Wolverhampton Wanderers in their Premier League opener next Saturday at King Power Stadium.
