Official : Nigerian-born central defender ends eight-year association with Arsenal
Published: June 03, 2021Ibadan-born central defender Joseph Olowu has ended an eight-year association with Premier League club Arsenal.
Just as allnigeriasoccer.com exclusively reported more than four months ago, the Gunners have confirmed via their official website that the 21-year-old Olowu will be leaving the north London club when he comes off contract on June 30.
He is one of four U18 and U23 players whose deals have not been extended, the others being Levi Laing, Luke Plange and Jason Sraha.
Olowu joined Arsenal from Charlton Athletic at the age of thirteen, rising through the ranks before signing a scholarship and later professional contract in December 2017.
Though he was not listed for any matchday squad, he trained with the first team on countless occasions.
A former captain of Arsenal U18s, Olowu enjoyed loan spells at Cork City in the Republic of Ireland and National League side Wealdstone.
This website understands that Olowu is aiming to join a League Two club for next season but remains open to playing in the National League.
