Chelsea's Transfer Shortlist: 5 Likely Names
Published: May 31, 2021Chelsea had a great season finale this year. After performing well in the Premier League - even though the team only made it into the top four - it qualified for the upcoming Champions League season even before its last match in the current one.
And on Sunday, it lived up to the expectations of Vwin and other bookmakers, winning the Champions League final against Manchester City.
Now, in turn, as the seasons have ended, it’s time for the team to decide who will join its roster for the new one.
Here are the five names reportedly on manager Thomas Tuchel’s shortlist.
Romelu Lukaku
Lukalu, a Belgian player with a Zairean origin, has already played - briefly - at Stamford Bridge in his early years, spending most of his time with Chelsea on loan.
Lukalu is a versatile striker, with 24 league goals in his last season, and he would be a welcome addition to Chelsea’s attack.
Harry Kane
Harry Kane, the other potential Chelsea signing this transfer window, is currently at the Spurs and captains the National Team.
He’s been with the Spurs since he turned senior in 2019 (at the age of 16!). Last season, he won the Premier League’s Golden Boot.
Aurélien Tchouaméni
Tuchel is also reportedly interested in a new midfielder - and Monaco player Aurélien Tchouaméni may just do the trick.
He is seen as a viable alternative to Declan Rice, also on the manager’s wishlist.
Adama Traoré
Adama Traoré, currently playing as a winger for Wolverhampton Wanderers, has spent his last six football seasons in the Premier League, playing with clubs like Aston Villa and Middlesborough.
He was described as a “talismanic playmaker” and praised for his ability to shield the ball from defenders”, “excellent passes”, and “rapid acceleration”.
He is one of the players who may strengthen the defence of the Blues next season.
Jonas Hofmann
Finally, let’s not forget about Hofmann who Tuchel reportedly wants as a cover for Hakim Ziyech.
Hofmann plays with Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach since 2016, and was capped for Germany’s EURO 2020 squad.
Tuchel signs first
Thomas Tuchel took over Chelsea this January after gathering experience with clubs like Paris Saint Germain and Borussia Dortmund.
He initially signed for a year and a half - he is not yet certain that his contract will be extended (although after this season’s results, it’s almost certain).
If all goes as expected, the manager will have his new contract soon and begin to improve the ranks of Chelsea players immediately afterwards - and reportedly spend a purse of around £200 million (N116.5 billion) this summer.
