Iheanacho on target but Leicester City's top-four hopes dented by defeat to Chelsea
Published: May 19, 2021The race for the two final Champions League spots will go down to the wire following Chelsea's 2-1 win over Leicester City at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night.
Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi were in action for the Foxes, with the in-form striker coming off the bench an hour into the game and the holding midfielder putting in a full shift.
Chelsea established a two-goal lead thanks to efforts from Antonio Rudiger and Jorginho before Iheanacho pulled a goal back in the 76th minute.
Iheanacho tucked the ball away into the bottom corner after Ndidi won possession and played it through to his international teammate.
In doing so, the number 14 became the first player in Premier League history to score a goal on all seven days of the week within a single season in the competition, according to OPTA.
Iheanacho has now tallied nineteen goals in all competitions this term, extending his personal best for a single-season.
The Foxes must rely on Burnley or Crystal Palace taking points from Liverpool, and Chelsea dropping points against Aston Villa to stand a chance of qualifying for next season's Champions League.
Leicester City's remaining game is against Tottenham Hotspur at the King Power Stadium on Sunday, May 23.
