Onuachu's 34th goal of the season salvages draw for Racing Genk against Anderlecht
Published: May 12, 2021Racing Genk dropped points for the first time in the Jupiler Pro League playoff after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Anderlecht at the Luminus Arena (Genk) on Wednesday night.
The Blue-White fell behind to an effort from El Hadj in the 33rd minute but red-hot striker Paul Onuachu struck midway through the second half to salvage a draw for Racing Genk.
The Nigeria international met a beautiful pass from Junya Ito and headed into the far corner for the equaliser.
In doing so, he took his tally for the season to 34 goals in all competitions, including 32 in the Belgian top-flight.
According to OPTA, Onuachu is the first player to score 32 goals in a Jupiler Pro League season since Erwin Vandenbergh did so in the 1979-1980 season (39).
Today's game marks the first time the former FC Midtjylland man has managed to score a league goal against Anderlecht and it came after four appearances.
In terms of the league table, Racing Genk remain second with 35 points but have played a game more than table-toppers Club Brugge who are on 39 points.
