England battling Nigeria for 19-goal Manchester City striker likened to Aubameyang
Published: April 22, 2021The English Football Association have set the ball rolling in their pursuit of prolific Manchester City striker Tai Sodje.
Born and raised in Sheffield, Sodje has the option to represent either England or Nigeria and it's the Europeans that have made the first move to cap him.
With 19 goals in 19 matches, the Anglo-Nigerian is the leading scorer in the U18 Premier League ahead of another player of Nigerian descent, Crystal Palace's David Omilabu who has 18 goals to his name.
Sodje's impressive season hasn't gone noticed as he was contacted by an England U19 coaching staff last month over the possibility of playing his international football with the Young Lions.
"Tai was contacted by England last month - the U19s. He has not yet made a choice on the country to represent, " a top source close to the attacker told allnigeriasoccer.com.
"His main focus now is to play first team football, be it at Manchester City or any other Premier League club."
Sodje has the ability to play across all positions in the front-line and has drawn comparisons with Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for his similar playing style.
He appears to be a fan of the Super Eagles as he follows the national team on social media, as well as Fulham's Nigeria international Josh Maja.
