Genk goal machine Onuachu reveals the real reason he was substituted against Antwerp
Published: April 19, 2021Racing Genk goal machine Paul Onuachu has suggested that he was replaced midway through the second half against Royal Antwerp because he was struggling with an injury.
It had seemed manager John van den Brom replaced his top scorer to potentially avoid him picking up his fifth caution of the season.
Onuachu was walking a disciplinary tightrope after he was cautioned in matches against Zulte Waregem, RSC Charleroi, Mouscron and RSC Anderlecht in the first half of the season.
With his brace against Antwerp which took his tally in the league to 29, the Super Eagles striker was one goal away from equaling Wesley Sonck's record for most goals in the regular season.
In quotes relayed by Voetbal Primeur citing Het Belang Van Limburg, Onuachu explained : "I did not think about that yellow card. I had some problems with my knee and I was replaced as a precaution".
Racing Genk threw away their two-goal lead and eventually lost 3-2 to Antwerp after Onuachu made way for international teammate Cyriel Dessers in the 67th minute.
