'He wants to stay at the club' - Arsenal coach Arteta reacts to Balogun's reported new contract
Published: April 14, 2021Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta faced the cameras on Wednesday morning ahead of his side's trip to the Czech Republic capital Prague, where they face Slavia in the Europa League quarter-final second leg.
One of the questions the Spaniard was asked was whether Folarin Balogun has signed a new deal with the club.
Though the Gunners are yet to confirm the striker's new deal, it can be reported with certainty that the England youth international signed a new deal last Friday, five days ago.
On Balogun's reported new contract, Arteta told reporters : "We are going to make it official when it is official and everything is done, but as I said before I was being very positive that he wants to stay at the club.
"We want him to stay at the club so we are very close."
When asked if the plan would be for Balogun to stay at Arsenal next season or if there's a possibility of the striker going out on loan, Arteta answered : "First of all we have to sign him! Once we sign him, we go step-by-step and we'll communicate with you guys on what we're doing".
Balogun has averaged a goal every two games for the Arsenal teams this season with twelve in 24.
