England make move to beat Nigeria to talented Fulham winger likened to Demarai Gray
Published: April 01, 2021Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that the English Football Association have made a move to beat their Nigerian counterparts to the services of talented Fulham winger Michael Olakigbe.
This website reported three years ago that England were ahead of Nigeria in the race for the services of Olakigbe and the European giants have now firmed up their interest.
A product of grassroots club East Soccer Base Academy, Olakigbe was called up to an England U17 training camp this month and was one of the star performers as the Young Lions defeated Watford U23s 2-1 in a friendly at St George's Park earlier this week.
The 2004-born winger provided the assist for England's second goal scored by Kaide Gordon after coming off the bench.
Tall Arsenal central defender of Nigerian parentage, Zach Awe started for the Young Lions in the friendly against the Hornets.
Olakigbe has drawn comparisons with former Leicester City winger Demarai Gray due to his pace and elegant dribbling skills.
This season, he has directly participated in seven goals (4 goals, 3 assists) in 13 matches for Fulham in the U18 Premier League and featured in the prestigious FA Youth Cup.
