Crystal Palace whizkid Omilabu scores fourth brace of the season in win against Chelsea U18
Published: March 16, 2021Crystal Palace showed their title credentials with a 2-1 victory over Chelsea in the U18 Premier League on Tuesday afternoon, a victory that sees them return to the top of the southern section.
The Eagles started with three players of Nigerian descent in the form of David Omilabu, Victor Akinwale and Tayo Adaramola, while former Golden Eaglets invitee Prince Adegoke was a non-playing substitute for Chelsea.
Crystal Palace led 1-0 at the break courtesy of Omilabu, who juggled the ball in the area, flicked the ball over the head of a defender and slotted home despite the Blues goalkeeper getting a hand to the ball.
Chelsea restored parity at minute 54 when Silko Thomas cut onto his left foot and found the bottom corner from just inside the box.
Four minutes from time, the referee pointed to the spot after Adaramola, who was partly at fault for Chelsea's equaliser, was brought down in the box and from the resultant penalty Omilabu scored his second of the game.
Omilabu's brace moved him onto 12 goals in the U18 Premier League, including braces against Chelsea, Southampton and Arsenal (twice).
The 18-year-old striker scored against Fleetwood Town and Burnley in the FA Youth Cup and Premier League 2 respectively, bringing his total to 14 for the season in all competitions.
