Arsenal striker Balogun declares himself fit after missing Manchester City clash
Published: February 25, 2021Allnigeriasoccer.com has been told that Folarin Balogun has declared himself fit ahead of Arsenal's Premier League 2 fixture against Liverpool on Saturday.
The American-Anglo-Nigerian attacker, the Gunners U23 captain this season, was conspicuously missing from the matchday squad as Steve Bould's team were beaten 2-0 by Manchester City U23 last Friday, fueling speculation that he was in contention to make his Premier League debut against City's first team on February 21.
However, he was ruled out of both games due to a minor injury but has recovered from the ailment and it's left to the coaching staff's discretion whether or not to name him in the traveling party to Merseyside.
Logically, Balogun has not been considered for Arsenal's Europa League meeting against Benfica on Thursday because there had been doubts over his fitness leading up to the trip to Piraeus in Greece.
With the exception of the 3-1 win vs Derby U23s he missed as a result of suspension, the talented striker had started all the matches played by Arsenal in the Premier League 2 prior to the visit of Manchester City.
Balogun has impressed in the Europa League despite speculation surrounding his future, scoring two goals and registering an assist in four appearances off the bench.
The 19-year-old has approximately four months left on his contract with Arsenal.
