Goalkeeping Rival Names Ejeheri As The Most Committed Arsenal Academy Player
Published: February 21, 2021Speaking to the Arsenal Matchday Programme for the visit of Manchester City, goalkeeper Remy Mitchell fielded questions on his teammates and spoke about a variety of topics.
Mitchell joined Arsenal at U9 level in 2012 and signed a scholarship deal with the Emirates Stadium outfit before the start of the 2020-2021 season, a scholarship intake also including Nigerian center back Zach Awe who turned professional last week.
When asked to name the most committed player around the academy, Mitchell answered : "Ovie Ejeheri".
A second year scholar at Arsenal, Ejeheri is ahead of Mitchell in the pecking order of U18 goalkeepers at Arsenal, having started five matches in all competitions this term whereas the 2004-born shot-stopper has figured just once, against Crystal Palace.
Injuries have severely hampered the progress of Ejeheri in recent seasons and he is back in the treatment room after suffering a fresh injury in last month's 4-1 win against north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
Arsenal have an interesting decision to make on Ejeheri as his contract expires at the end of the season.
He has been at the Gunners since the age of five and has cited Juventus legend Gianluigi Buffon as his role model.
