West Ham Boss Explains His Thinking Behind Hauling Off Odubeko In Loss To Manchester United
Published: February 10, 2021Manchester United are through to the last eight of the Emirates FA Cup following a hard-fought 1-0 victory after extra-time over West Ham United at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.
The Red Devils found it difficult breaching the defensive tactics of David Moyes' side but seven minutes into extra-time Scott McTominay put his team ahead and into the quarterfinals of the FA Cup for the seventh year in a row.
As exclusively reported by allnigeriasoccer.com, Irish-Nigerian striker Mipo Odubeko was part of the traveling squad to Manchester United and started on the bench.
The 18-year-old, who joined the Hammers from Manchester United in 2019, was West Ham's fourth substitute of the night, replacing Andriy Yarmolenko in the 54th minute.
With West Ham playing defensively, Odubeko was starved of any real service and was substituted himself in the 112nd minute.
Speaking in his post-match press conference, Moyes explained his thinking behind hauling off Odubeko and replacing him with Manuel Lanzini.
The Scottish football tactician was quoted as saying by Football. London : "He played a long time but I wanted to get the experienced Lanzini on, I am pleased Mipo got some minutes".
Odubeko had played just one minute of first team football - against Stockport County in the third round of the FA Cup last month - before stepping out on to the Old Trafford turf.
