Moyes Named Odubeko In Squad Vs Liverpool After Watching Him Net Brace For West Ham U23s
Published: January 31, 2021West Ham's six-game winning run came to an end as they were beaten 3-1 by defending champions Liverpool at the London Stadium on Sunday.
The red flag that it would be a difficult evening for the Hammers came in the 57th minute when Mohamed Salah opened the scoring and the Egyptian doubled the lead midway through the second half before Wijnaldum put the game to bed in the 84th minute.
Everything is pointing to the fact that Ademipo Odubeko is inching closer to making his Premier League debut for the club he joined in October 2019.
The Irish-born Nigerian striker was included in West Ham's matchday squad for the third consecutive Premier League game but remained rooted to the bench.
According to the Athletic's Roshane Thomas, West Ham boss David Moyes watched Odubeko put up a man of the match performance with a brace and assist as the U23 team registered a 3-1 win over Southampton B in the Premier League 2 on Friday, so it was an easy decision to retain the 18-year-old in the squad.
The former Manchester United wonderkid made his professional debut for West Ham against Stockport County in the third round of the Emirates FA Cup on January 11, replacing Michail Antonio in the closing minutes for his first taste of senior football.
Odubeko has scored 14 goals in twelve appearances for West Ham's youth teams.
