Arsenal Invincible Kanu Reveals His Standout Moment From Gunners' Draw Vs Manchester United
Published: January 31, 2021English Premier League rivals Arsenal and Manchester United played out an entertaining goalless draw on Saturday evening.
No player of Nigerian descent - cap-tied or not - was on parade at the Emirates Stadium in London though young goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo was named in the Gunners provisional squad list having trained with the first team in their final workout at London Colney on Friday.
Former Nigeria international Odion Ighalo was allowed to cut short his loan spell with the Red Devils few days before its expiration so did not travel with the squad to the English capital.
In a game of few clear-cut chances, the closest either side came close to breaking the deadlock was in the 65th minute when Alexandre Lacazette's free-kick bounced back the woodwork.
United had a chance to snatch all three points in the closing minutes but Edinson Cavani saw his volley narrowly miss target.
Nigeria legend Nwankwo Kanu, a member of the Arsenal Invincibles side that finished the 2003-2004 season undefeated, monitored with keen interest the heavyweight clash between the Gunners and Manchester United.
The 1996 Olympics gold medalist noted that both teams played admirably and highlighted Lacazette's brilliant free-kick.
Writing on Instagram, Kanu said : "0-0 full time. Good free kick #lacazette . Both teams did well. Well done Gunners. We look forward to next 3 points."
Arsenal have climbed above Chelsea into eighth place following the draw, while Manchester United are three points behind table-toppers and city rivals Manchester City.
