'The Beast' Akinfenwa Thanks Tottenham Hotspur Coach Mourinho For Kind Words
Published: January 26, 2021Tottenham Hotspur will face Everton in the fifth round of the Emirates FA Cup after beating Championship outfit Wycombe Wanderers 4-1 on Monday night.
Adebayo Akinfenwa, 38, was among three players of Nigerian descent on parade at Adams Park, the others being Fred Onyedinma and Uche Ikpeazu.
The experienced striker came on with eighteen minutes remaining for his 21st appearance of the season in all competitions.
BT Sport pundit Ian Darke revealed during commentary that Tottenham Hotspur coach Jose Mourinho came out early after the half-time team talk and spent most of his time talking to Akinfenwa out on the pitch.
Nicknamed 'The Beast', Akinfenwa took a photograph with the famous Portuguese football tactician after the game.
The Anglo-Nigerian took to social media on Tuesday morning to hail Mourinho after his kind words about him.
Replying to a post by Tottenham Hotspur, Akinfenwa tweeted : "Even at the age of 38, certain moments are still so humbling. Thanks for the kind words Jose ππΏπ #Blessed #AllTheBestJustNotOnThurs ππ".
Akinfenwa was rewarded with a new one-year contract last July after helping Wycombe Wanderers seal promotion to the Championship via the playoffs.
