Top U23 Nigerian Goalscorer In Europe Ugbo Scores 11th League Goal For Cercle Brugge
Published: January 23, 2021After going ten games without a win in the Belgian First Division A, Cercle Brugge returned to winning ways by beating Kortrijk 2-1 at Guldensporenstadion on Saturday evening.
Ike Ugbo was in the right place to slot home Vitinho's low cross in the 23rd minute and in doing so the Chelsea loanee took his tally for the season to eleven goals.
Pavlović added a second for the visitors in the 28th minute and Evgeniy Makarenko pulled a goal back just before half time.
Ugbo who made his 21st start of the season vs Kortrijk made way for Kévin Denkey nine minutes from time.
No Nigerian player aged 23 or under has scored more goals than the former England U17 international in the European top-tier Leagues this season.
Hamrun Spartans' Franklin Sasere is the second top scoring U23 Nigerian player in Europe with 8 goals, followed by FC Prishtina striker Oto John with seven.
Ugbo kicked off his career with Cercle Brugge with a goal on his debut against KV Mechelen and has found the net against seven other teams namely Sint-Truiden, KAA Gent, Zulte Waregem, Waasland-Beveren, OH Leuven, RSC Charleroi and Kortrijk.
