'It's A Lovely Finish From Ighalo' - Ex-Norwich Star Hails Man Utd Striker For Poacher's Finish
Published: June 27, 2020Manchester United got the best possible platform to reach the semifinals of the FA Cup after taking the lead five minutes into the second half in the ongoing game against Norwich City at Carrow Road.
Odion Ighalo continued his remarkable goalscoring form in Cup competitions, including the Europa League, since his transfer to the Red Devils when he broke the deadlock, taking his tally to five goals from five matches.
1994 Africa Cup of Nations-winning striker Efan Ekoku, who was on commentary duties for the FA Cup world feed, hailed the former Nigeria international for his poacher's finish inside the box.
"It's a lovely finish from Ighalo, little bit of luck, Luke Shaw is actually off balance, he's sort of nudged into making this cross," said Ekoku, who played for the Canaries during the 1993-1994 season.
"Godfrey on his near side is not able to push him quickly enough. That is not good defending from Norwich City - two players going for the ball - and they have left Ighalo.
"You'd expect him in an offside position but as the fullback was drawn out to try and deal with Luke Shaw, that's a clever finish.
"It's not quite off the boot, almost off the shin, it doesn't matter, they all count. From that distance he just had to get it wide of Tim Krul which he did."
Ighalo's other goals in a Manchester United shirt came against Derby County in the last round plus in Europa League matches against Club Brugge and LASK.
