Kanu Named As Substitute In Thierry Henry's Ultimate XI Side Of Most Frequent Teammates
Published: May 03, 2020Former Nigeria and Arsenal striker Nwankwo Kanu has been named by former teammate at Arsenal Thierry Henry as a substitute in his Ultimate XI side of players he had most club and country appearances with.
Henry became one of the world's most deadly strikers at Arsenal and was shockingly never awarded the Best Player gong when he lit up the Gunners' previous home ground, Highbury.
Two-time African Footballer of the Year in 1996 and 1999 Kanu who joined Arsenal from Inter Milan in January 1999 and went on to win two Premier League titles in London including being part of the Invincibles side of the 2004/2005 side shared 142 Arsenal appearances with Henry in north London.
In an interesting line up of players that shared the pitch with him at club and national team levels as published by English media, The Mirror, Henry selected ten of his Arsenal teammates barring former France goalkeeper Fabian Barthez whom he had 169 appearances with.
In an all Arsenal defence, Henry went for former Cameroon international Lauren Etame Meyer who had 208 club appearances with him as well as Kolo Toure,(186) Sol Campbell (174) and Ashley Cole (194).
In midfield, Henry went for former France teammate Patrick Vieira whom he had most overall appearances of his eleven with 307 club and country appearances.
Joining Vieira is another Frenchman Robert Pires ( 284), alongside Ray Parlour (169) and Freddie Ljungberg (244).
Henry's attack consist of Dennis Bergkamp (216) and Sylvain Wiltord (189).
Subs: Lehmann (145), Keown (137), Grimandi (132), Dumas (118), Thuram (130), Gilberto Silva (159), Kanu (142).
