'I Locked Myself And Started To Cry' - Adekanye Details His Difficult Moments At Liverpool
Published: April 26, 2020Nigerian-born starlet Bobby Adekanye has opened up on the difficult moments he had in the early stage of his career at Premier League side Liverpool.
The pacy and skillful winger represented the youth teams of Alphia, Ajax Amsterdam, Barcelona and PSV Eindhoven prior to his move to the European champions in July 2015.
Adekanye had to wait for several months before playing competitively for the Reds youth team because his international clearance took a long time before it was processed.
After his debut for Liverpool U18s, he later suffered an injury while on international duty with Netherlands U17s that saw him miss the rest of the 2015-2016 season.
In quotes carried by lalaziosiamonoi.it citing Adekanye's interview with Global Sport Management via Instagram, the Dutch-Nigerian said : "When I arrived at Liverpool, it was a complicated month. At first I had to wait for documents, then I got injured.
"I thought that I would not continue playing football, that I wanted to go back to Holland. I didn't want to go to the workouts, not even waking up.
"I locked myself in the house and started to cry. My agent cheered me up, he said that everything would be fine.
"Without him and the support of my parents, I would probably have left. "
Having spent four seasons at Liverpool without making his first team debut, Adekanye was snapped up by Lazio last summer and he has played seven games for the first team this season.
