Super Falcons star Onome Ebi went the distance as Nigeria suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Norway in both countries 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup opener on Saturday evening.
In doing so, the Henan Huishang central defender became the first African player in history to appear in five World Cups (men or women) : 2003, 2007, 2011, 2015, 2019.
Prior to setting a new record, Ebi previously shared the record of featuring in four World Cups with some of the most distinguished Africans to play the beautiful game.
In terms of the Men, Cameroon duo Samuel Eto'o (1998, 2002, 2010, 2014) and Rigobert Song (1994, 1998, 2002, 2010) were named in the squads as well as played in the tournaments.
Precious Dede, Perpetua Nkwocha, Stella Mbachu, Florence Omagbemi and Nkiru Okosieme appeared in multiple Women's World Cups, four in total.
A four-time Africa Women Cup of Nations winner, Ebi is the current NFF Women's Player of the Year.
