Official : Manchester United Confirm Nigerian Defender Will Move Onto Pastures New
Published: June 08, 2019Through a statement on their official website, Premier League giants Manchester United have confirmed that American-born Nigerian defender Matthew Olosunde will be departing the club once his contract expires on June 30, 2019.
The one-cap United States international, who remains eligible to wear the colours of the Super Eagles, joined Manchester United from New York Red Bulls in March 2016.
Olosunde started with the U18 team of the Red Devils before he was promoted to the U23 squad in the 2016-2017 campaign and went on to make 33 appearances across three seasons in the Premier League 2.
The right back struggled with injuries in his final season with Manchester United, limiting his appearances to just five games (3 as starter) in the Premier League 2.
He was named on the provisional rosters for Premier League matches against Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal in May 2017 but was cut from the match day 18.
Olosunde began his career at Princeton Football Club, where he spent seven years before shifting to NYRB.
