2019 FIFA U20 World Cup : Five Takeaways From Flying Eagles 2-1 Loss To Senegal
Published: June 03, 2019The Flying Eagles of Nigeria crashed out of the ongoing U20 World Cup in Poland after losing 2-1 to Senegal in a second round tie.
Kingsley Michael Has A Night To Forget
Kingsley Michael was far from impressive throughout the tournament and Nigerians won't forget his uninspiring performances anytime soon.
His display against the young Teranga Lions of Senegal was nothing to defend as he recorded too many misplaced passes and poor first touches.
He definitely needs to improve his game if he must progress to the Super Eagles.
Flying Eagles Lack Creativity
Aigbogun's men looked uncoordinated at the middle of the pitch as the midfielders put up a below-par display. The trio of Ofoborh, Okon and Michael couldn't string four passes together not to talk of providing defense-splitting passes to attackers.
Senegal Were More Tactically Disciplined
The young Teranga Lions perfectly executed their manager's tactical approach to the clash. They utilized their pace and power to score two first-half goals.
They weren't too offensive in the second half as they sat back to soak up all the pressure from Aigbogun's side. They will definitely do Africa proud should they continue with their impressive form.
Flying Eagles Paid For Sor's First-half Miss
Nigeria could have taken the lead during the first 30 minutes of the encounter but Sor failed to convert from close range.
Had he found the back of the net, it would have given the team much confidence to find another goal which would be enough to see them progress to the next round.
Ofoborh Struggles Against A Very Physical Senegal
The England-based midfielder was one of the shining stars in Flying Eagles' stalemate with Ukraine last week , but the same can't be said about him during the time he spent on the pitch today.
The Bournemouth star struggled against Senegal and his substitution didn't come as a surprise to many.
