Form And Desire Should Help Arsenal Product Akpom Get A Second Chance With Super Eagles
Published: May 22, 2019Nigerians will never forget Chuba Akpom's decision to ignore Sunday Oliseh's approach in 2015 when the former Ajax midfielder wanted the ex-Arsenal striker in his Super Eagles team.
Having waited for an invitation to England's Senior national team which didn't come, the 23-year-old eventually pledged allegiance to the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
Some years after making himself available to Nigeria, Akpom is yet to be considered by Super Eagles handlers, but that could change anytime soon.
The forward has definitely returned back to his best form, following his permanent move to Greek side PAOK before the start of this season.
He was influential in PAOK's successful campaign in which they won two major trophies for the first time in their history.
He scored six goals to help the team lift the Greek Super League trophy and also found the back of the net on two occasions to ensure that his side lifted the Greek Cup.
Considering his present form and his desire to be part of the West African side, Akpom should he given a second chance with the Super Eagles.
As it stands, it is too late for him to be part of the squad heading to Egypt for the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations as he will need some time to gel with the rest of the team.
Nonetheless, he should be considered after the tournament as part of the next generation, whom many Super Eagles supporters are tipping to be world beaters.
