Should Alex Iwobi be handed game time by Arsenal manager Unai Emery and scores against Valencia in Thursday evening's eagerly anticipated Europa League meeting between the Premier League and La Liga side, he will equal a Nigerian record held by Victor Moses.
Since the competition was rebranded the Europa League in the 2009-2010 season, only one Nigerian player has managed to score in the semifinals.
Victor Moses became the first Nigerian player in history to score in the semifinals of the Europa League when he found the net in Chelsea's 2-1 win against Basel on April 25, 2013.
The former Nigeria international was the owner of the Chelsea record for scoring in consecutive games (four) until it was broken by France World Cup-winning striker Olivier Giroud in February 2019.
The other record that could be set by Iwobi is being the first Nigerian player in history to feature in the Europa League final, if Arsenal overcome their Spanish opponents over two legs on Thursday night and he plays in the showpiece.
The Hale End Academy graduate has scored only one goal in 16 appearances in the Europa League.
