Nigerian Whizkid Scores Overhead Kick As Crystal Palace Beat Chelsea To Reach Floodlit Cup Final
Published: April 11, 2019Crystal Palace are through to the final of the Premier League Floodlit Cup after beating Chelsea U15s 3-0 in the regional final on Wednesday, April10 at the the EBB Stadium in Aldershot.
Nigerian whizkid Victor Akinwale stole the show with a brace for the Eagles and was in contention to bag a hat-trick but had to be replaced in the 73rd minute after suffering an injury.
The highly-rated teenager prodded home from close range in the 31st minute after a brilliant low cross into the area from Tayo Adaramola.
He scored Crystal Palace's third goal in the second half after lobbing Chelsea's goalkeeper with an overhead kick from just inside the area and the goal was very brilliant that almost the entire squad raced to the corner flag to celebrate with him, according to Crystal Palace Youth.
England U16 goalkeeper Kelechi Chibueze went the distance for the young Blues while another player of Nigerian descent, Prince Adegoke was on the bench for the entirety of the game.
Palace will face either Sunderland or Wigan Athletic in the national final on May 3 at Walsall Football Club.
