Rennes 3 Arsenal 1 : Iwobi Scores Maiden Europa League Goal As Gunners Lose In France
Published: March 07, 2019Arsenal were left with an uphill task after suffering a 3-1 loss to Rennes in the first leg of their last 16 Europa League clash at Roazhon Park on Thursday evening, with Super Eagle Alex Iwobi finding the target for the visitors, his first goal in the competition after 13 games.
The game was only three minutes old before the Nigerian picked a pass from Nacho Monreal, cut in from the left before curling a shot which evaded a sea of bodies to clip in off the upright.
The goal was his fifth in all competitions this season, and the first since finding the net against Huddersfield in a league game in February.
The Nigerian offered the Gunners greatest offensive threat during the 53 minutes he spent on the pitch and came close to adding to his goal in the 23rd minute but Rennes goalkeeper Tomáš Koubek was on hand to punch away.

Goals from Benjamin Bourigeaud, Nacho Monreal (own goal) and Ismaila Sarr was enough to hand Julien Stephan's men the impetus ahead of next week's return fixture.
