Liverpool Loanee Awoniyi Is Back To His Best, Bags Fourth Goal In Five Games
Published: February 17, 2019Liverpool loanee Taiwo Awoniyi was decisive again after starring for Royal Excel Mouscron as they recorded a 3-0 victory against Cercle Brugge on game week 26 in the Belgian First Division on Sunday evening.
The former Nigeria U23 star struggled for goals in the first half of the season while on loan at Gent and his explanation was that he didn't get enough playing opportunities.
Forty seconds into the second half, Awoniyi went past Cercle Brugge defender Jérémy Taravel before shooting past goalkeeper Nardi to open the scoring and had a hand in the second goal scored by the home team when he set up Amallah three minutes later.
With no goals and assists in 16 appearances for Gent before moving to Royal Excel Mouscron, he now has four goals and two assists in five matches for Royal Excel Mouscron.
Royal Excel Mouscron have won five games on the bounce since Awoniyi's return to the club and the Nigerian striker netted the winning goals against KV Oostende and Racing Genk.
The 21-year-old has the intention to extend his goal tally when Royal Excel Mouscron host Lokeren on Saturday, February 23.
