Saka, Amaechi Shine For Arsenal U23 In 4-0 Win Over Tottenham Hotspur
Published: February 16, 2019Nigerian wingers Xavier Amaechi and Bukayo Saka were in impressive form Friday night for the Arsenal U-23 side as they romped to a 4-0 away win over their Tottenham Hotspur rivals at the Lamex Stadium in a Premier League 2 game.
Joe Willock (brace), Charles Gilmour and Eddie Nketiah were on target for the Arsenal youth team whose last game against West Ham United was called off due to bad weather.
Willock's first of the night came after great combination by the Nigerian duo of Saka and Amaechi set him up.
Amaechi also hit the crossbar in the second half with a wonderful free kick but was eventually replaced towards the end of the game by Gedion Zelalem.
Popular London based website, Football.London which focuses on clubs based in the English capital rated the Nigerian teenagers highly afterwards.
"Set up Joe Willock's early goal with a cut back and with ten minutes to go sent a lovely curling free-kick off the right-hand post. A constant menace to Spurs throughout the night. 8," they wrote about Xavier Amechi.
On Saka who has played in some first team games, Football London went:
"Bukayo Saka. It was his low cross that caused chaos early on and led to Willock's early goal. Did his bit in the attacking areas. 7."
Goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo albeit not in goal for the game is another Nigerian on the books of the U23s coached by Arsenal legend Freddie Ljungberg.
