Amaechi Gets Assist, Saka Hits Crossbar Twice As Arsenal U23s Thrash West Ham 3-0 In Abandoned Game
Published: February 05, 2019Arsenal's Premier League 2 game against their West Ham counterparts at Meadow Park in Hertfordshire was abandoned at halftime due to unfavorable weather conditions.
The Gunners U23 side, who are coached by Sweden legend Freddie Ljungberg, had raced into a 3-0 lead before the game was called off, thanks to goals from Eddie Nketiah, Joe Willock and Dinos Mavropanos.
According to live updates during the game from Arsenal Academy's Twitter account, England U19 star of Nigerian descent Bukayo Saka lacked a bit of luck to increase his goal tally after two of his efforts rattled the woodwork.
Saka first hit the post in the 32nd minute before missing an opportunity to increase the lead to 3-0 three minutes before the interval.
With 13 minutes to be played in the half, Nketiah broke the deadlock after he was picked out by Xavier Amaechi.
Since returning from injury on December 17, Amaechi has been directly involved in four goals (2 goals, 2 assists) in four Premier League 2 appearances.
Arsenal U23s occupied the eighth position in the PL 2 table coming into the game vs West Ham.
