Arsenal's Saka Breaks Premier League Record Previously Held By Ex-Man City Striker
Published: January 03, 2019Bukayo Saka became the second youngest player of Nigerian descent to debut in the English Premier League after coming off the bench in the 83rd minute for Arsenal in their 4-1 rout of Fulham on January 1, 2019, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The Hale End Academy product played with the number 87 on the back of the shirt he wore at the Emirates Stadium.
And in doing so, the England U19 star set a new record for the player with the highest squad number since the formation of the Premier League.
The previous record stood for four years and was held by ex-Manchester City striker José ángel Pozo who wore the number 78 kit when he debuted for The Citizens against Sunderland on December 3, 2014.
Saka is the first Arsenal player since Jack Wilshere to make his Premier League debut in the same season he penned a scholarship.
The 17-year-old has three appearances to his name in total for The Gunners first team and has been included in the match day squad five times by manager Unai Emery.
