Chelsea To Promote Nigerian Defender To First Team Amid Uncertainty Over Future Of Victor Moses
Published: December 16, 2018Chelsea will reportedly focus their attention on the British market over the next two transfer windows.
The Daily Mail claims that The Blues want new homegrown talent to comply with English Premier League quota rules next season amid uncertainty surrounding the futures of Gary Cahill, Cesc Fabregas, Danny Drinkwater, Andreas Christensen, Victor Moses and Rob Green.
The newspaper added that Fikayo Tomori who is impressing on loan at Derby County in the Championship will likely be handed a place in the first team next season.
Apart from Tomori, the other homegrown players owned by Chelsea on the fringes of the first team eligible to represent Nigeria are Ola Aina and Tammy Abraham but they have been loaned out to Torino and Aston Villa respectively for the entirety of this season.
Tomori, who won Chelsea Academy Player of the Year in 2016, has not featured for the first team since he made his professional debut against Leicester City on the final day of the 2015-2016 season.
