Liverpool Striker Of Nigerian Parentage Named In Young Lionesses Squad For U20 World Cup
Published: July 24, 2018Liverpool Ladies striker Rinsola Babajide has been included in the Young Lionesses squad for the FIFA Women’s U20 World Cup which will hold in France between 5 and 24 August 2018.
The Londoner is one of seven strikers named on the 21-player roster by England U20 boss Mo Marley.
England have been drawn in Group B of the tournament along with North Korea, Mexico and Brazil and they will open group play against the Asians at Stade du Clos Gastel, Dinan-Léhon on August 5, followed by games against the South Americans and CONCACAF team.
Nigeria are also competing in this tournament and can only meet England as from the semifinal if both teams survive the group stage and the quarterfinal.
Rinsola Babajide turned out for England's U19 team before she was promoted to the U20 squad.
Ahead of her trip to France on Thursday, she played the first half of Liverpool Ladies goalless draw with Everton two days ago.
Eseosa Aigbogun (Switzerland), Nkem Ezurike (Canada) and Chioma Ubogagu (United States) who have Nigerian blood flowing in their veins have represented other nations at the U20 Women's World Cup.
