Manchester United's Nigerian Whizkid Ready For Most Important Game Of Career
Published: April 06, 2018Lagos-born Nigerian midfielder Tosin Kehinde is set to play arguably the most important game of his young career to date when Manchester United U23s welcome Sunderland to Old Trafford on Friday, April 6.
Victory for the Black Cats at the the Theater of Dreams would see United U23s relegated to the Premier League 2 Division Two next season.
Kehinde pledged his allegiance to Nigeria over England, where he was raised, during the last international break and was invited by the Nigeria Football Federation to train with the Super Eagles ahead of their friendly against Serbia.
But he politely declined the invitation as he was due to travel with Manchester United U23s squad for a training camp in preparation for today's clash against Sunderland.
Speaking ahead of the tie, manager Ricky Sbragia told manutd.com: ''Sunderland is a must-win game for us. The gods have been against us and we’ll consider what we’re doing and see at the end of the season.
''But we’re looking forward to it and will do all the necessary preparation.''
The 19-year-old Kehinde has started 12 matches played by Manchester United in the Premier League 2 this term, while he came off the bench on two occasions.
