Elsewhere, Chelsea made light work of Championship opposition, Hull City with a comprehensive 4-0 victory at Stamford Bridge with a double from William and further strikes from Pedro and Oliver Giroud securing the victory.
The Blues breezed into the huge lead following a rousing first half performance with Argentine goalkeeper, Willy Caballero denying David Myler from the spot after the Tigers who were offered a lifeline in the second period failed to make their chance count.
While Chelsea's Victor Moses was left on the bench for the entirety of the encounter, the duo of Ola Aina and Fikayo Tomori were not eligible for selection against their parent club while Moses Odubajo who is still recuperating from an injury equally missed out for Hull.
