Ndidi Enters Nigeria's History Books Following Red Card Vs The Eagles
Published: December 17, 2017Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has now entered the Nigerian history books after he was sent off in Leicester City's 3-0 loss to Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Saturday.
In the 61st minute, the Foxes number 25 was dismissed for a second yellow card by referee Martin Atkinson.
According to the BBC, Wilfred Ndidi became the fourth player (and only Nigerian player) to be sent off on his birthday in the Premier League after Dwight Gayle (17 October 2015 against West Ham), Gerry Taggart (18 October 1997, also against the Hammers) and Les Ferdinand (8 December 1993 against Liverpool).
Since the inception of the Premier League, nine players classed as Nigerians, including Ndidi, have been shown red cards in the English top-flight.
The other players include John Obi Mikel, Shola Ameobi, Celestine Babayaro, Yakubu, Victor Anichebe, Peter Odemwingie, Sam Sodje and Joseph Yobo.
Mikel, who is still active for the Super Eagles, was given his marching orders in Chelsea's matches against and Reading (2006) and Manchester United (2007) .
