Chelsea 1 Atletico Madrid 1: Victor Moses Sparkles Again, Through To The Last 16
Published: December 05, 2017Chelsea and Atletico Madrid played out a pulsating 1-1 draw in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday evening, a result which confirmed Antonio Conte's side qualification for the last sixteen as Group C runners-up with Victor Moses again in action for his side.
The Super Eagles winger started for the London club after starring against Newcastle in the Premier League last weekend and almost made a swift impression as early as the 23rd minute, unlocking the Atletico Madrid defense with a smart run in behind before feeding Alvaro Morata but the Spaniard's shot was well stopped by Jan Oblak.
Seven minutes past the half hour mark, the Slovenian was on hand to deny Davide Zappacosta who out-muscled Thomas Partey before drilling a venomous effort which was beaten away by the goalkeeper, in one of the very few half chances notable in the first half.
The second period saw the Rojiblancos fly out of the blocks and nudge themselves ahead in the 56th minute, ex-Chelsea striker, Fernando Torres flicking in for Saul Niguez to nod home.
But a Stefan Savic's own goal would deny the La Liga giants fifteen minutes from time, Hazard creating space down the left channel to fire in a cross which the defender could only divert past into his own net with Morata lurking, thus ending any hopes they had of qualification.
