World Cup Odds : Super Eagles Are Africa's Hope To Win, Germany & Brazil Joint Favorites
Published: November 29, 2017As the clock ticks towards the World Cup draw, the Super Eagles have been installed as Africa's likeliest team to win the competition in Russia, despite not ranked amongst the top five teams on the continent by Fifa in its latest world ranking.
According to Irish bookmakers Paddy Power, Nigeria have been priced at odds of 125/1, meaning the probability of the national team winning the trophy for the first time in their history is 0.79 %.
Nigeria have a better chance of winning than Senegal (150/1), Morocco (200/1), Egypt (250/1) and Tunisia (500/1).
Defending champions Germany and five-time world champions Brazil are the joint favourites to win the Cup, ahead of France, Spain, Argentina, Belgium and England in that order.
If Nigeria win their opening match in Russia, they will set a new record as the most successful African country to have participated in the Fifa World Cup.
Cameroon, who have seven World Cup appearances, lead the way in the points accumulated for African teams in the all-time standings with 19 points, one more than the Super Eagles.
