Aina, Uwakwe Named In Chelsea UEFA Youth League Squad
Published: September 06, 2017Chelsea have named their squad list for the 2017–18 UEFA Youth League, with two players of Nigerian descent making the shortlist of players that will defend the colours of the two-time champions.
England youth international Jordan Aina, the younger brother of Super Eagles invitee Ola Aina, and England U19 international Tariq Uwakwe have been registered for the competition.
The teenagers will be hoping to make their debuts in the competition on September 12 when the Blues takes on Qarabağ .
Spanish side Atlético Madrid and AS Roma are the two remaining teams in Group C.
Chelsea won their first UEFA Youth League title in 2015, beating Shakhtar Donetsk 3-2 with England U21 star of Nigerian descent Dominic Solanke among the scorers for the London team.
Ola Aina and Tammy Abraham also featured against the Ukrainians and Fikayo Tomori was an unused substitute.
The following season, Fikayo Tomori became the second player of Nigerian descent to score in the showpiece game, after opening the scoring in the tenth minute of Chelsea's 2-1 win over Paris Saint-Germain.
