Broos Insists He'll Coach Cameroon Against Nigeria Amid Resignation Rumours
Published: September 03, 2017Cameroon national team coach Hugo Broos is still in charge of the African champions amid speculations in the media that he resigned his appointment in the wake of their dismal 4-0 loss to Nigeria on Friday evening.
The Belgian is optimistic that there's still a small window open for Cameroon to qualify for the Russia 2018 World Cup if they win their remaining three games and Nigeria drop points.
''Certainly (I remain the coach). I never understood why this news appeared in the newspapers. This is not the first time we are in a situation that is not well,'' Broos said at a press conference on Sunday morning, according to camfoot.com.
''I remember in November after the game against Zambia, I still remember last year after the two games against Zambia.
''This is no reason to say that I run away. It is a motivation to say to all those who criticize now and who demolish the team they loved six months ago, that they are wrong. Every time I succeeded and I will succeed now too.''
Since winning the 2017 African Cup of Nations in February, Cameroon have managed only one victory, lost five times and drawn three games.
