At AFAS-stadion Achter de Kazerne, Gent surrendered a one-goal advantage to draw 1-1 with Mechelen.

Exciting winger Samuel Kalu opened his account for the season when he gave Gent the lead in the 33rd minute. While the number 18 put in a full shift, Super Eagles stars Moses Simon and Anderson Esiti were non-playing subs.

Former Flying Eagles skipper Abdul Ajagun started and was in action for ninety minutes in Kortrijk's impressive 2-1 win at AS Eupen. The attacking midfielder was shown a yellow card in the 58th minute.

Liverpool loanee Taiwo Awoniyi had an eventful debut for Royal Excel Mouscron, scoring his maiden goal for the club in their 2-0 road win against Lokeren. The number 18 struck in the 23rd minute and got replaced in the 90th minute.

Out-of-favour Super Eagles striker Joseph Akpala played the last 22 minutes of KV Oostende's 3-0 loss to Waasland-Beveren at the Versluys Arena.
