Chelsea-Bound Morata Set To Beat Record Currently Held By Manchester United
Published: July 20, 2017Chelsea-bound Alvaro Morata will become the most expensive Spanish player in history when he completes his move to the Premier League champions in the coming days.
Though a transfer fee has not been officially announced by Chelsea, the well informed Spanish sports daily Marca has reported that the Blues have agreed to pay 80 million euros to Real Madrid for the striker.
The imminent transfer is the eighth most expensive deal in history, and will beat the record currently held by Zinedine Zidane, ángel Di Maria and James Rodriguez, who joined Real Madrid (2001), Manchester United (2014) and Real Madrid (2014) respectively for 75 million euros.
The most expensive transfer in the history of football was Paul Pogba's move to Manchester United last summer for
€105 million.
No deal involving an African player made the top fifteen most expensive transfers in history.
