Kalmar Confirm Interest In Liverpool's Nigerian Striker, Once Dubbed The 'Next Rashidi Yekini'
Published: June 21, 2017Kalmar FF Sports Manager Thomas Andersson Borstam has confirmed that the Swedish Allsvenskan side have made contact with Nigeria U23 international Taiwo Awoniyi with a view to a transfer in the summer.
Liverpool will loan out the teenager to a foreign club for the third consecutive season before the close of the transfer window because he is not yet qualified for a work permit.
It is known that Liverpool have a partnership agreement with Kalmar as part of the deal taking Awoniyi to Anfield, but Borstam has played down suggestions that a deal is imminent.
''It's good to get things done in advance. Maybe Liverpool is looking at a new environment to lend Taiwo to, but we have not come that far,'' Borstam told Fotbollskanalen.
''But he is in our minds and I have contact with him from time to time. We always try to keep in touch with different means.''
Kalmar were compensated financially when Taiwo Awoniyi joined Liverpool in the summer of 2015 as he had a pre-contract with the club.
