Osimhen Enters Nigeria History Books, But Player He Replaced Holds The Record In The Team
Published: June 02, 2017Wolfsburg teenage sensation Victor Osimhen made his debut for the senior national team when he came off the bench after 45 minutes in their 3-0 rout of Togo in an international friendly in Paris on Thursday.
In doing so, he became the first Nigerian player born in 1998 to represent the three-time African champions in a match sanctioned by Fifa.
Aged 18 years, 5 months and 3 days, Osimhen is not the youngest debutant in the current Super Eagles team, that privilege belongs to the player he replaced before the start of the second half, Ahmed Musa.
Leicester City star Musa made his international bow on a bigger stage, when he came on in place of John Obi Mikel in the 75th minute of Nigeria's 2-0 win over Madagascar in an African Cup of Nations qualifier on September 5, 2010.
The former Kano Pillars sensation was aged just 17 years, 10 months and 22 days.
