Ex-Chelsea Striker Samuel Etoo : I Am Too Old To Play Against Nigeria
Published: December 06, 2016Former Chelsea striker Samuel Eto’o will not be making a comeback to the Cameroonian National Team ahead of their World Cup qualifier against Nigeria in August 2017.
The four-time African Footballer of the Year called time on his international career in 2014 after scoring 56 goals in 118 appearances for the Indomitable Lions.
In an interview with Telefoot, Eto’o ruled out a return to the squad for the African Cup of Nations and World Cup qualifiers because of his age.
“Oh no! I’m a little old for that ... There’s a young generation. Even if they have almost the same age with me,” said Eto’o.
Now 35, Eto’o first played against Nigeria in 1997 at the LG Cup in Tunis, before two appearances at the African Cup of Nations in 2000 and 2004.
He scored two goals in those three matches against the Super Eagles.
