Stranded Nigeria U23s To Travel In Batches To Rio; Pinnick Ordered To Source For Funds
Published: July 31, 2016As first reported by allnigeriasoccer.com, the Nigerian U23 National Team are stranded at their training camp in Atlanta, four days before their crucial encounter against Japan at the 2016 Olympic Games.
The order from above to the Nigeria Football Federation supremo Amaju Pinnick is to source for funds “anyhow” and don’t allow the national team to be disgraced, with the promise that they will refund whatever he spends on getting the team to Rio, Brazil.
Some of the players traveled from their clubs to Atlanta with their personal funds, hoping that there will be ticket refunds as it is the norm but there are no signs that their expenses will be reimbursed up to this very moment.
Tentatively, players and officials are expected to travel to Brazil on Monday, August 1, and they will leave the United States in batches.
The Japan Olympic football team arrived in Brazil this past week ahead of their opener against Nigeria in Manaus.
